Orla Tita NKI : « This kind of international immersion broadens my outlook… »

From March 22 to 28, 2026, the international media spotlight turned toward an elite delegation of eleven African journalists during an immersive mission in Moscow. Among them, Orla Tita Nki (CRTV North-West) stood out following her prestigious victory at the 2025 AUB-UAR Media Awards. Her award-winning investigation into Universal Health Coverage opened the doors to this unique experience, initiated by the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) and facilitated by RT. In this exclusive interview, she reflects on the challenges of reporting in Bamenda and how this international journey is reshaping her vision of modern journalism.

THE AWARD-WINNING INVESTIGATION: UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE

Q: Your documentary on « Universal Health Coverage » tackled a very sensitive public health issue. What were the biggest challenges you faced while conducting this investigation, and how does it feel to see local issues gaining international recognition?

Orla Tita Nki: While conducting investigations and interviews on the 26-minute radio documentary titled Universal Health Coverage, I encountered some challenges:

  • Most people are not aware of the scheme and the package for the different regions that make up Cameroon, with limited knowledge about the health scheme most people have not registered on the platform.
  • Those who have registered and benefitting already are not willing to talk because of the security situation in the region not wanting to disclose their identity.
  • Security challenges made it very difficult to get to all the district health centers in the Northwest to evaluate the implementation of the scheme.

Despite these challenges, the public health officials in the Northwest helped by linking me with resource persons and beneficiaries willing to talk.

TECHNOLOGICAL EMPOWERMENT: BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE

Q: The mission in Moscow focused heavily on optimizing digital formats. How do you plan to use these new skills to make your radio documentaries more interactive and accessible to a younger, digital-savvy audience in Cameroon?

Orla Tita Nki: I plan to leverage the digital skills gained from the Moscow mission in the following ways:

  • Incorporate Multimedia Content: I will embed audio with complementary visuals, such as short videos, photos, and infographics, to create a richer storytelling experience that appeals to digital natives.
  • Social Media Campaigns: I will promote the documentaries via social media campaigns, encouraging sharing and discussions among youth communities.
  • Collaborate with Digital Influencers: Partnering with popular online personalities will help reach and resonate with younger audiences.

PANAFRICAN SYNERGY: CRTV ON THE GLOBAL STAGE

Q: You were part of a diverse delegation representing nine African countries. In your opinion, how can this kind of international immersion strengthen the bilingual and multicultural identity of the CRTV on the global media map?

Orla Tita Nki: Participating in a diverse delegation representing nine African countries provides a unique opportunity for the CRTV to enhance its bilingual and multicultural identity on the global media map. Here’s how this kind of international immersion can strengthen CRTV’s position:

  • Promoting Cross-Cultural Exchange: Engaging with peers from different countries fosters mutual understanding and appreciation of diverse cultural perspectives, enriching CRTV’s content with authentic, multicultural narratives.
  • Building International Networks: Establishing relationships with media professionals across Africa opens avenues for collaborative projects, content sharing, and joint initiatives.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Learning from international peers introduces innovative techniques and standards, elevating my quality and competitiveness.

Overall, this kind of international immersion broadens my outlook.
